Snip, skip, hooray

JOHN TERRY grabbed a late winner for England to keep them in trim for the World Cup.

Terry struck in the 85th minute at Wembley, as Fabio Capello and his men remained top of the crop in qualifying Group Six.

He then sat on the pitch to celebrate, while Wayne Rooney gave him his second haircut of the week. Skipper Terry explained: “I needed a haircut but we weren’t allowed to leave the hotel.

“I asked Wazza and he obliged by giving me a little trim. I’m pleased with it and I might go back to him next time.

“He was asking for a tenner for it but I still owe him.”

Peter Crouch got England off the mark with a goal in the 29th minute set up by Terry.

But former Chelsea flop Andriy Shevchenko equalised with 15 minutes to go, before Terry popped up with the clincher.

It means England have now won five out of five qualifiers under boss Capello.

The Italian said: “John Terry showed his great character by scoring like that. It shows just why he is the captain of the team.”

The victory was slightly overshadowed by an injury to Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand, who had to come off before the end.

Capello added: “He was in a bit of pain and I will have to speak to the doctor.”

Ukraine manager Alexei Mikhailichenko reckoned his side controlled much of the game.

He said: “Our plan was to keep Shevchenko on the subs’ bench until the English team was exhausted.

“I think England have a great chance to win the group, though it is too early to say anything definitely.”
